The
Flight That Rattled Washington
December 31 -
The flight that shook up Washington D. C., TSA, Homeland Security and
everyone else has been recorded and is a comedy of horrible mistakes.
You should read this in it's entirety. The unfolding of events will
amaze you. General Aviation is still paying for the mistakes of one
pilot and a student pilot. You must be an AOPA member to get into this
page. Go to

Sun-N-Fun To Get Competition
December 28 - "I've
hinted at a major announcement for a few months now, usually in
reference to our many concerns about Sun 'n Fun, and I guess that it's
time to let the feline out of the paper enclosure," states Jim Campbell
Editor of Aero-News Network today in an phone conversation with
Fly-Low. Read the entire story released by Campbell.

Parachute Inn
December 13 -
The Parachute Inn Restaurant, located right next to the FBO at Walnut
Ridge (AR)
has a new addition. The seating capacity just increased from sixty to
one hundred-forty. This little restaurant has been on the airport for a
long time. However, in January 2001 Donna Robertson re-opened the
restaurant as the Parachute Inn. Ever since that date it has continued
to grow and thrive. MORE...
AOPA Reports KY's Governor wants
Their TFR/ADIZ
Dec 10 -
KENTUCKY LAWMAKER THREATENS STATE'S AIRSPACE
Don't think an air defense identification zone (ADIZ) could be imposed
outside of Washington, D.C.? Well, former Kentucky governor and current
state Sen. Julian Carroll is
sponsoring a
resolution, requesting the FAA to examine flight paths to
Frankfort's Capital City Airport and to restrict air traffic around the
grounds of the state's Capitol. Carroll was interviewed recently by a
Frankfort radio station about the resolution and said he believes that
restricting the airspace is a homeland security issue because terrorists
may consider acts outside major cities.
Listen online. AOPA Southeastern Regional Representative Bob Minter
is marshalling forces to defeat the resolution when the legislature
reconvenes January 3. www.aopa.org

"Sons of Legends"
December 9 -
For over 30
years, the definition of airshows has been Jimmy Franklin and Bobby
Younkin. These two brought the most innovative, insane, and impossible
acts to life with their super-human ability to fly.

A Better Cam
December 6 -
There is a new airport cam online. This is one of the better websites
I've seen. The cam is a good security tool for a smaller airport. The
camera rotates and give a different view around the airport and
surroundings. In one of the views, you will see the tallest mountain,
Mt Magazine, between the Rockies and Appalachian mountains (picture)
coming in at 3000 feet msl. The
cam
is in Booneville, AR...

48... If you have a favorite location, send it to us........
Throttle Forward
November
27 - In the December Throttle Forward, a column that allows me to rant
and rave, this issue is a bit more somber. The instructor that taught
me to fly, a gentleman who became as close as a brother to me, went west
this month. Arnie Sims and I went through many hard times together. I
will miss him. To learn more about Arnie go to this

Double "V"
November 18 -
August 29th of 1997, Steve Cowell purchased a semi-raggedy
North American T-6 from a pilot in Blue Earth, Minnesota. That plane
had fake bombs hanging off the wings and a typical older paint scheme.
Having driven a couple of hours to Blue Earth from Minneapolis, where he
had been on a job related business produced this less than lovable NA

Dave's Eulogy
November 08 -
“Death is a part of life”. It’s like saying, “you know you’ve got a nose
attached to your face?” However moronically simplistic that saying is,
it’s also very true. In due time death comes to us all and when it’s a
friend – its never easy or kind.

The pilots in Arkansas now have an opportunity to become a vocal force

The Doomed Hubble
Discovers
Moons
October 31 -
NASA is preparing to allow Hubble to slowly fall into the earth's
atmosphere and burn up. Today, this was reported.
NASA's Hubble Space Telescope has spotted two possible new moons
orbiting Pluto, the ninth planet in our solar system. If confirmed, the
candidate moons could provide new insight into the nature and evolution
of the Pluto system and the early Kuiper Belt. The Kuiper Belt is a vast
region of icy, rocky bodies beyond Neptune's orbit.

Pappy, The Cartwheeler
October 9 -
Anyone who has flown any length of time bears the ignominy of at least
one screw-up. It’s not natural for a human being to do anything for any
length of time and not mess up. And though we’d like to hide them under
our flight cushions like little secrets, away from prying eyes – Yes,
pilots mess up too and occasionally good friends are there who never let
you forget.

Editor's Note:
October 8 - How
many times have you heard, "Why would you jump out of a perfectly good
airplane?" Lot's of times, I am sure... Well I've done it and it 'ain't'
all that bad, my friend. When I fly my Zlin 526, I always wear a
chute.. Since I have a tendency to fly inverted. Either way, jumping
out of a plane is a great sport... Here is a website that will get you
started.

Fly-Low Ask Pilots To Take A
Stand |
October 8 -
There are times when we need to take a few minutes to voice our
opinion. This is one. The AOPA has request pilots write letters to the
FAA, Congressmen, and send them a copy. Likewise, we request that you
go this page and pull the information and write those letters. You can
voice your opinion on line or by mail. Check this
AOPA website for
directions. Speak for us!
AOPA Ask Pilots To Take A Stand
October 7 - The

unusual step of mailing a National Pilot Alert to its members, asking

identification zone (ADIZ) permanent.

complacent about density altitude.
