AOPA SAYS:
SPORT PILOT FINAL RULE EXPECTED NEXT WEEK
July 17 - The FAA is expected to announce the Sport Pilot and Light-Sport
Aircraft final rule next week. It is expected to allow certificated pilots who
no longer have current medical certificates to fly again in low-performance
aircraft—such as some Piper J-3 Cubs—by using a valid state-issued driver's
license to meet the medical requirement. What remains to be seen is when the
rule would actually go into effect. Once it does, previously certificated pilots
should be able to fly immediately under more limited sport pilot rules. For more
about the initiative, see
AOPA Online.

A Good Place To Visit
July 14 - There are millions of sites on the Internet to
visit. Perhaps, there are a few that may be over looked.
As a pilot, especially today, we need to secure as much
information as possible about aviation. Not just
weather, but rules, regs, TFRs, and etc. This page will
give you some FSDO sites that are a good site to visit, filled
with pilot information. They are always posted on our

By Sparky Imeson

Hurray,
AOPA Scores One For GA!!!
July 10 - The FAA has denied Department of Defense requests to turn 11
temporary flight restriction areas (TFRs) into prohibited airspace, the agency
informed AOPA yesterday
afternoon. Instead, the FAA will follow AOPA's recommendation
and convert the existing TFRs over the 11 military
installations into national security areas (NSAs), a less
restrictive classification that still preserves the
government's ability to protect the airspace when needed for
national security (see "What's

July 9 - “Aviation is serious
“bidness”, as my Beloved Uncle from East Tennessee would say. During my
time in this “bidness” people have exceeded their limited
vernacular in creative ways to impress on me the dire nature
of flight. These folks seem to thrive on extolling the darkest
aspects the “bidness” in efforts to get my undivided
attention. I suppose this is done to jar you into a sense of
practical caution when first venturing into it.

We're Good. No, We're Bad!!
June 8 - In
recent weeks, AOPA has contacted television stations across the country
after being alerted (usually by members) that they were working on
stories about "lax" security at general aviation airports. The wave of
stories is no coincidence: It's the May "sweeps" period, that time of
the year when stations will do anything to get the best possible
ratings. Big ratings mean big bucks because those ratings determine how
much they can charge for advertisers to run commercials. But those
ratings can also give GA a lot of headaches.
