Business Spotlight:
Parachute
Inn Restaurant
By Natalie McCormick
The Parachute Inn Restaurant has incredibly easy access, whether by land
or air, since it’s located on the historically rich Walnut Ridge Airport
(ARG). Pilots can actually land and taxi right up to the door. How many
other restaurants can offer that? It’s also located directly across from
the Walnut Ridge Historical Museum.
Co-owners
of this aviator’s dream come true are Sandy Morris and Donna Robertson (pictured
at right). They became friends several years ago while working in
related medical fields. Sandy and Donna had many things in common, but
most of all they wanted a change. So, deciding to take control of their
destinies became their first step in owning their own business. After a
faithful visit to an existing restaurant on the Walnut Ridge field,
Donna was approached with the perfect opportunity for them. On February
5, 2001, Sandy and Donna opened the Parachute Inns doors to the future.
Both Sandy and Donna were new to the restaurant business, but they have
enjoyed the challenge of learning. Sandy says, “the customers will
definitely set you straight.” What the customers haven’t taught them,
life has. As with owning anything there are highs and lows. But Sandy
and Donna face the future and what may come with the attitude that they
will succeed. Knowing that is half the battle.
Outside the Parachute Inn, parachutes and planes greet you from their
sign. Inside, little parachutes dangle happily above the quaint and
inviting dinning area. Breakfast and lunch are served Tuesday thru
Friday 7:30AM to 2:00PM. Friday and Saturday dinner is served at 5PM
till the last person leaves. They are closed Sunday and Monday.
You can choose from a wide variety, either ordering from their delicious
menu or feasting on their freshly stocked buffet. “Catfish Fridays” and
“Seafood Saturday” with frog legs, highlight the buffets weekend
line-up. The buffet ranges in price from $4.99 during the week to $7.99
for the seafood. Price includes salad and desert bar. Children 2 and
under eat free. Kids receive a free toy they are sure to enjoy. Last Halloween Sandy and
Donna handed out parachuting aliens. They were a big success, according
to Sandy.
The Parachute Inn has a banquet room for parties, meetings or get
together. The Kiwanis Club uses it for its weekly luncheon meetings and
the Skill Corp. will be meeting for Thursday breakfasts. You can call
the Parachute Inn to reserve the date you need.
If you mention a member of your party is celebrating a birthday, the
Parachute Inn cast and crew will serenade them with birthday wishes. If
it happens to fall on a night when Donna’s husband is in charge of fish
frying, he will accompany them with his metal pan and wooden spoon.
Parachute Inn cares about its customers and strives to make each day
better than the last. Come in and let Sandy and Donna greet you with a
warm smile and a delicious meal for a great low price. You’ll be glad
you came. For more information or directions, please call 870-886-5918. |
