"If you vote, then you can grip!”
In the year 2004, we have the opportunity to VOTE.
The disappointing fact is that only a small percentage of those eligible
to vote will do so. We live the best life in the most free country in
the world, where voting is taken so complacently. There are Americans
who have died in every century since the inception of the United States
protecting our right to vote. Yet, many of us don’t go to the polls and
exercise our FREEDOM – VOTING!
Why? I have no idea. Every time the polls open,
my rear is there ready to be counted. I have not missed an election
since I turned twenty-one. That, as you may remember, was the earliest
a person could vote in the sixties. We were old enough to die in
Vietnam, but not vote or drink a beer. Is there logic there? I feel
strongly, that my friends who gave their life on a foreign soil,
fighting for the American way, did so to protect my freedom to vote and
live in this country without the dictatorship of some foreigner. I
respect them and their spirit and I will vote. I only wish more
Americans felt the same.
In some countries, people stand in long lines for
hours to vote. Why? Because the country they live in has, until
recently, refused to allow them to vote and since being given the
freedom to do so, they damn well do it. I admire them for voting. If
(and I hate to even suggest this) Americans ever lose our right to
vote….. those of you who have never voted will be ready to vote and you
won’t be allowed too. Think about it!!!
If you notice, I haven’t tried to tell you how to
vote. I really don’t care who you vote for… just VOTE!!! You may vote
against my man/woman. That is your right. If my candidate lost the
election and 99 percent of the eligible voters went to the polls… I
would be a happy man. Ecstatic to say the least!

THERE IS NO EXCUSE FOR NOT VOTING, in my
opinion. Yes, I know that the cartoon associated with this article
implies the politicians put out a lot of “Bull Crap”. Yes, they do!!!
It is up to the voters to sift thru the manure to find the jewel. It
can be done, unless you vote because he/she is pretty, has good hair or
teeth, dresses nice, or just has such a wonderful smile. These are not
good reasons to vote for them. Get past that and the manure to fine the
real candidate.
There are many laws and new rules that affect
aviation. Candidates have opinions. Are they for the bills that will
help aviation? Find out and support those candidates who favor
aviation. We need them. Voting is like quitting smoking, only you can
decide to do it. This year is your year to shine. Let’s do it
together. VOTE in 2004!!! I have always said, “If you vote, then you
can grip!”
