PAUL TIBBETS, PILOT OF B-29 'ENOLA GAY', TO PARTICIPATE
AT EAA AIRVENTURE OSHKOSH 2004
July 1- The
Experimental Aircraft Association will host famous World War II pilot
and leader, Paul Tibbets, at the 52nd annual EAA AirVenture fly-in, July
27-August 2, at the Wittman Regional Airport in Oshkosh.
Tibbets will visit AirVenture on Tuesday, July 27 and Wednesday, July
28, with a presentation scheduled for Tuesday night's Theater in the
Woods program.
Tibbets piloted the B-29 Superfortress bomber "Enola Gay," which dropped
the first atomic bomb over Japan in August 1945, hastening the end of
the war. His love of flying -- beginning at the age of 12 and
continuing through 29½ years of service in the U.S. Army Air Corps and
Air Force, as well as 15 years with the Executive Jet Aviation -- has
impacted aviation history with a legacy of dedication and leadership.
Tibbets was inducted into the National Aviation Hall of Fame in 1996 and
has received numerous other awards and decorations for his contributions
to aviation.
