Story & Photo by Christine Weiss

August 4 - John Oakland is the newest officer of the Holley
Mountain AR01 Chapter of the United States Pilots Association (USPA).
Oakland will fill the VP post vacated by Tim Posey and joins Jim Collom,
president, Joe Marshall, treasurer, and Christine Weiss, secretary, who
are each entering their third term as officers.
In addition, Oakland is this year's coordinator of
the annual Holleyfest open house at Holley Mountain Airpark,
which offers a weekend adventure immersed in the autumn glory of the
Arkansas Ozarks, wrapped up with a big bow of activities focused on
pilot education and family fun.
The agenda begins with fly-in/camp-out arrivals on
Friday, October 8, and includes “Tall Tales” storytelling plus music by
“Cotton Patch” around the campfire that night.
Saturday’s pilot education agenda features the
Wings Safety Program, JBR Flight Service of Jonesboro, Air-Evac, and the
State of Arkansas Department of Aeronautics.
A Popsicle Stick Drop and other games will
entertain the kids, aviation and craft vendors will exhibit, the Ladies
Auxiliary VFW District 6 Color Guard will do their award-winning
“Presentation of the Colors” and FAA Pilot and Aircraft Courtesy
Evaluations (PACE) will be available by advance sign-up.
Camping is permitted Friday through Monday, free of
charge, and ground transport to local motels (reservations required)
will be provided. On-site food services will be available throughout the
event, provided by K.D. BBQ/Catering, and vendor booth spaces are
available by advance reservation.
