CHEROKEE VILLAGE (AR) FLY-IN

 By Russ Stokes

May 25 - The Sharp County Regional Airport (CVK) will host a Fly-In on Saturday, June 11th in conjunction with the 50th Anniversary Celebration of Cherokee Village (AR).  The celebration will entail a BBQ dinner on Friday, June 10th; followed by a Pancake Breakfast, Mixed Golf Scramble, Lake Tours, Antique Car Show, and Dinner Dance to conclude the activities on Saturday.

A dedication ceremony will occur on Saturday afternoon to recognize the founder of Cherokee Village, John H. Cooper.  Mr. Cooper, founder of Cooper Communities initiated this retirement community in the Ozark foothills in 1955.  Today, it is a city of 4,648, covering 15,000 acres with 7 lakes, and two golf courses; plus the nearby Spring River meandering through its environs.  Its many scenic vistas attract both visitors and residents alike.

A cruise on Lake Thunderbird, a round of golf at one of the two courses, a short walk on the Adahi Trail adjacent to Town Center, or a visit to the other attractions which will highlight the anniversary celebration will make your visit worthwhile.  A shuttle service will be available for pilots and their passengers to Town Center and/or the golf course.

The Fly-In will also be an integral part of the celebration.  Your destination, Sharp County Regional Airport (CVK) has recently undergone extensive runway resurfacing and widening to 75 feet.  New lighting, striping, and signage have been installed at the airport.  The airport is classified Category IIB located at latitude 3615.9N and longitude 09133.8W on RF 122.7.  For additional airport information, the web site is: www.fltplan.com/AirportInformation/KCVK.htm or contact John Armstrong at 870-966-4805.
