BRS Honored

BALLISTIC RECOVERY SYSTEMS (BRS) TO BE HONORED AS ONE OF THE BEST OF THE BEST IN AEROSPACE & TECHNOLOGY

BRS is the recipient of Aviation Week’s new Laureate Award as the top Business and General Aviation Company in 2004

March 9 -  It’s another milestone for Ballistic Recovery Systems, Inc. (BRSI or www.BRSI.OB-BRSparachutes.com) when the whole - airplane parachute company announced it has been named a recipient of a prestigious Laureate Award by Aviation Week & Space Technology magazine .  Each spring since 1956, Aviation Week publishers have honored the best of the best in aerospace, recognizing the top individuals and teams who have made lasting contributions to the advancement of aerospace. BRS, a Minnesota based aviation safety company, is celebrating its 25th year and its on- board emergency parachute system has been credited with 177 lives saved. Bob Nelson, Chairman of the Board and BRS Chief Executive Officer, said he is humbled by the honor. “BRS helps saves lives, there is no greater achievement than that, but the Laureate award recognizes the dedication and commitment to aviation safety everyone affiliated with BRS has made over the past quarter century. This is truly about our employees who know the importance of their job –saving lives.”

BRS will be in the first- ever recipient of a new distinguished award category; the Business and General Aviation class.  Aviation Week publishers praised BRS for its innovation and advances in aviation safety saying; Ballistic Recovery Systems will be recognized for its ongoing research, and development programs to equip ultra lights and light airplanes with emergency parachute systems for the specific purpose of saving life and offering pilots a last-resort option in life-threatening situations.

The innovation to design a parachute to be fitted to an aircraft is an idea that was talked about for nearly a century. But it wasn’t until 1975 when Boris Popov of St. Paul, Minnesota survived a 400- foot fall in a collapsed hang glider that the concept of an emergency on-board parachute system became a reality, “As I fell, I became most angry at my inability to do something. I had time to throw a parachute. I knew they existed.”. Shortly after surviving that fall he founded the company and Popov the inventor, now serves on the BRS board of directors.

In the company’s 25- year history, BRS has sold nearly 20,000 of its whole-plane parachute systems.  Earlier this month, BRS reported $1,866,623 in sales in the first quarter fiscal 2005 ended December 31, 2004 ,which represents a 25.3 % increase over the $1,489,965 figure reported for same period in fiscal 2004. Aviation Week & Space Technology’s 48th annual Laureate Awards dinner will be held April 5th the winners, as well as this year's lifetime achievement Award recipient, will join a truly legendary honor role in aviation and aerospace accomplishment and distinction.
