FBO Changes Owners

The Durango FBO operation changed owners in
late 2004. The FBO had been owned for years by Don and Carol Watkins.
The FBO is now the Durango Jet Center. The new owner is New Timberline
Aviation, LLC. Rick Close of Dallas (TX), Tim Finnie, Gary Malle (both
from Grand Junction) and Doug Lashley of Durango are the stockholders in
New Timberline Aviation.
In earlier years, New
Timberline Aviation operated the FBO in Grand Junction (CO). Along with
Durango FBO, they own and operate the Tucson (AZ) FBO. Doug Lashley,
general manager of the Durango FBO, has been in aviation for forty
years. He began flying A-3 jets for the U. S. Navy, flying off the USS
Ranger while on active duty in Vietnam. He attended law school and be
came Counsel for Texas International Airlines and General Counsel for
Fairchild Aircraft. He holds a commercial pilot license with instrument
rating.
This
is just a sample of what you will find at Durango Jet Center. Full and
Self Serve 100LL , over-wing and single point JET-A with pre-blended 2M
additive, aircraft Parking, Tie Down, and Hangar (22,000 sq'), passenger
terminal with big-screen TV, maintenance - airframe & engine, aircraft
charter, courtesy vehicles, conference facility, catering, free ice and
coffee, and hotel and car reservations. Hours of operation are from 5
am to 9 pm every day.
Durango (DRO) has fifty aircraft based at the airport. There are ten
commercial flights that come and go during the day. It is a regional
carrier, Mesa Airlines. The ski area, Durango Mountain Resort, is a
major winter draw and the 14,000 foot mountains are the summer draw.
Located in the high country, near the San Juan Mountains, this airport
supports a 9,201 x 150 foot runway at an elevation of 6,685’.
Approaches include ILS/DME, VOR/DME, VOR-A, AND GPS. Durango touts “300
days of sunshine yearly”.
