AT DEXTER -- In southeast Missouri at
Dexter (DXE) there is a restaurant on the field, the Airways Cafe.
Dexter Municipal is not a large airport.
They have a 4500 feet runway with fuel available.
Unicom is 122.8 MHz. The hours at the Airport Restaurant are 6:30
a. m. till 2:00 p. m. Monday through Friday and they are open 6:30 a. m.
till 1:00 p. m. on Saturday and closed on Sundays. Plate lunches are
served during the week and menu items are served on Saturday's.
The menu consists of hamburgers, cheeseburger, grilled cheese,
ham & cheese, French fries, salad, chicken strips, and home made
pie. The Homemade pie cost
$1.25, not a bad price for a nice piece of pie.
Breakfast, fit for a King, biscuits, eggs, gravy, sausage, bacon,
omelets, English muffins, topped off with fifty-cent cup of coffee.
That’s right, coffee for fifty cents.
Where can you get those prices today?
The restaurant has just celebrated their 7th year.
The locals like the food and speak well of it.
The restaurant is always busy.
It could be a short trip from your location for that $100
Hamburger. It is a large
restaurant, plenty of seating, no waiting.
If you want great ribs head to Dexter, MO. I found the folks at Dexter unusually friendly.
I will go back.
THE
CRYSTAL INN HOTEL & RESTAURANT AT BEARCE, Mt. Ida,
Arkansas -- Whether you call it Mt. Ida, Bearce, or 7M3, all three spell
good food and friendly service at the Airport and Restaurant.
A dentist, Dr. Fowler runs the airport.
The runway is 4,000 X 50 feet.
Unicom is 122.9 MHz. The
restaurant is not on the field, but is just a very short walk.
Once you get there you will find good food and reasonable prices. The Crystal Inn Restaurant has been in operation for many
years. The present owners,
Robert & Elizabeth Liva, have owned it for about seven years. The location for those unfamiliar to that area of Arkansas is
west of Hot Springs (HOT). Hot
Springs would be famous for Lum and Abner.
Mt. Ida is famous for Charlie Weaver from Mt. Idddee????? Perhaps you remember Cliff Arquette. This might date your age
should you remember the comedian.
What you
will find at Crystal Inn Restaurant is that $100 Hamburger, sandwiches,
Cajun fries, or for lunch Rib eye Steaks, T-Bone Steaks, Shrimp.
Breakfast is a popular fly in meal for pilots.
I must say it is good and the cost is most reasonable.
The hours of the restaurant are Friday through Monday, 7 a. m. to
2:30 p. m. On Friday and Saturday they re-open at 5:30 p. m. to 9 p. m.
