About Us: "Throttle Forward"
By Ralph McCormick, Publisher

When one spends most of his life in retail sales, which is certainly not a thankful job, one comes to expect almost anything.  The one thing that never happens is for someone to ask for your autograph.  Well after starting this publication, I have actually been asked for my autograph several times.  You can see it happening in the picture.  Lindsey Draper of Booneville, AR was at the local airport getting a, sort of, first ride.  The last time she was in a plane was when she was three.  After visiting with her and her father, she approached me for an autograph.  Needless to say, I signed.

I am a bit shy at this procedure.  For years, I ducked things being thrown at me by customers.  So this autograph-signing thing is a bit nicer and I don’t have to duck as much.  It does come as a bit unusual, however.  I am honored, but feel a bit unworthy.  I am the same person customers used to scream and shout at… but now I am appreciated.  I LIKE THIS BETTER.  Perhaps, I will get used to it as time moves on.

Ralph McCormick with autograph seeker,
Lindsey Draper.

The total response to FLY-LOW has been most good and most appreciated.  Our e-mail, phone messages, and person contacts have always been most positive.  I am proud that our magazine has become so popular among pilots in twelve states.  Our response has been fantastic.  We keep changing, improving, and enhancing the magazine.  I just picked up and viewed our first issue today for the first time in over a year.  Wow!  It was just sixteen issues ago, but it sure looks….  Shall I say, yuck!   The complete staff at FLY-LOW works for continued improvement.  Everything we do is to make FLY-LOW better.  Sure we make mistakes, and most of you are nice enough and don’t point them out.  I have “friends” who do point them out.  But then what are friends for???

On another subject, rumors of more terrorist attacks are surfacing.  It still will pay us to check with FSS before we fly.  A short briefing can prevent a long letter writing campaign to FAA.  Be aware of your surroundings and perhaps it is best you not “fly low” over Nukes, military bases, dams, or large crowds.  Fly low over a desert or bottomland, that shouldn’t cause you any problems from FAA.  Remember, safety first.
