WHAT WE DO?
In a twelve month period, our ‘tiny’
staff will produce over a third of a million words. That
breaks down to about fourteen hundred stories per year in
both the hard-copy edition and eFly-Low. We are lucky to
have several writers that work cheap… They work for a
coffee mug at Christmas time. Not much payback for their
work. It is, however, appreciated.
Our publication has grown from a
one-state magazine in 2001 to over twenty-five states at
present and still growing. Yesterday, a state…. Today, a
region…. Tomorrow, the world. With the Internet, we have
world wide coverage or so it seems. We have readers in
many countries. Many thanks go to our readers of our
publications, this one and the Internet version.
Until we start counting the words, we
didn’t realize just how much time on the computers we
spend. Surfing the net doesn’t really happen… there is no
time. Words… more words… all have to be typed and
proofed… do we make mistakes…??? You bet... we do it just
to keep our intrigued readers on guard.
AIR SHOWITIS
The air show season is here… we are
using this issue to provide our readers with the entire
summer of air show and events from our calendar on
www.fly-low.com. Many hours of research and sweat has
gone into the calendar. If you find any errors, let us
know. We will make the updates as they are available.
One of our most ‘hit’ pages on
www.fly-low.com is our events calendar. To show the
position Google and other search engines have placed on
our events calendar, simply do a Google search for “air
events calendar”. We come up as number one... NICE…
There are tons of events that are
planned this summer. Grab the wife and kids, head out to
a Fly-In or Air Show.
STATE PILOT’S ORGANIZATIONS
On our website, our Links page has a
list of all the state pilot associations that we could
locate on the Web. If your state association isn’t there,
notify me. Check out the website of your state
organization. I know most of them have State Fly-Outs
during the summer months. New Mexico, Colorado, and
Missouri are strong organizations that keep us posted on
their events. Your state organization could use you as a
member. Take the time to look them over and join.
A
FULL-COURT PRESS...
AOPA is jumping into every available
arena to make sure policy makers and lawmakers understand
general aviation and AOPA members' concerns about user
fees. AOPA is using every opportunity to show that the
association is both concerned and proactive about reducing
the FAA's costs. While the airlines claimed that general
aviation was competing with them for airspace and airport
access, AOPA presents the perspective of members and GA
pilots. "The possibility of user fees and the closure of
airports are our members' top concerns," said Andy Cebula,
AOPA senior vice president of government and technical
affairs. "They believe that user fees are not the way to
finance the FAA and fees would harm general aviation."
Watch the government to keep working on expanding the idea
of user fees for general aviation.
What do user fees mean to GA pilots?
A call to FSS for a weather brief….
$5.00. A flight plan… $2.00. Flight following… $7.00.
Freedom of the sky… PRICELESS. Need I say more? It’s
