About Us: "Throttle Forward"
By Ralph McCormick, Publisher

This issue of FLY-LOW has a new contributing writer, Sparky Imeson. Sparky has been producing mountain flying books and videos for many years. I am very happy that he will be submitting articles to us for publication. His writings are recognized far and wide as mountain flying “Bibles”. I have been reading and watching his videos since the early 80’s. His first story is Mountain Flying 101. If you’re interested in mountain flying education and safety go to www.mountainflying.com. There you will find information written by Sparky and many of his products. There is a lot of free information on mountain flying on his website. As I said earlier, I am pleased to have Sparky submit his stories to us for printing. It is nice to be able to ‘tap’ a resource of information such as his.

EMPEROR OF CHICAGO
By now most of you have heard what happened to Meigs Field in Chicago. I never heard a word of how the Mayor of Chicago, under the cloak of darkness, had his backhoes out on the runway digging large “X’s” in the runway (without issuing a NOTAM) on the national news. Guess it wasn’t newsworthy. I am disappointed in Daley for his actions, likewise, with the news media for not highlighting the war news in Chicago. I am very pleased with AOPA and EAA for their ‘up front’ stand on the situation. It may not do any good, but they are after him like a ‘pit bull at a dogfight’. There are protest and threats from pilots not to attend meetings or events in Chicago, simply fly or drive around Chicago (or perhaps Illinois) they say. If you would like to voice your opinion to the Mayor and Governor’s office the web addresses are mayordaley@cityofchicago.org  and governor@state.il.us.

CREDIBLE THREATS
What should be posted on the desk of each TSA employee, CREDIBLE THREATS? That is supposed to mean that no change of air space over the USA unless there is a credible threat. It might be necessary to supply them with a dictionary for the word CREDIBLE. As pilots have seen in the past TFRs and ADIZs pop up at the whim of mayors and owners of amusement parks… all without CREDIBLE threats of terrorism. If you wish to use your vote, you may contact your congressman using our website to locate his address. I have placed a link on our home page. There is also a link to AOPA & EAA on the front page.
