New Years Resolution
As we enter
2005, make a New Year’s Resolution to join a pilots
association and become an active member. Aviation has
been slaughtered for the past several years. It is time
to get out and make it happen.
As this
quote comes to mind:
"There are people who make things happen,
there are people who watch things happen, and there are
people who wonder what the Hell happened?"
Another one that comes to mind
is from a Roman Seneca in 47 AD... he said,
"Life is like a play - It is judged
superior by performance and not by length!”
If you love
aviation, then get it moving and join a pilot’s
organization and become active. There is one in your
state and perhaps in your town. We have links from our
website that will get you to some state pilots
associations. If your organization isn’t on our links
page, contact me. Make your resolution today to change
the face of aviation as we know it today. Let’s make it
better…
AIN’T IT WONDERFUL?
Since the
election was over the number of TFRs has dropped from 40
per day to ONE per week… makes it nice to see some free
sky for general aviation. You can still check TFRs on our
website daily. We continue to send out the TFR
Notifications when necessary. Lately, they have been slow
to go out... That is good or should I say, “Ain’t it
wonderful?”
AVIATORS IN ACTION
There are
several things going on in Oklahoma that require
attention. Several of them go back to the “good old days”
of aviation, when names like Wiley Post, Will Rogers,
Charles Lindbergh, and Amelia Earhart flew over the plains
of Oklahoma. The ongoing attempt to relocate the Wiley
Post Hangar, the recently created Wiley Post Commission,
and the museum that honors those who created the
Transcontinental Air Transport (TAT) are a few of the
challenges that face Oklahoma aviators.
I am
impressed by the amount of donated time and effort donated
to these projects. To move a large hangar, the size of
those in 1930, is an extraordinaire feat. One that
deserves the attention and support from all pilots. Wiley
Post was not just an Oklahoman who accomplished feats in
the new frontier. Wiley Post belongs to all Americans.
If you’re interested in assisting in the reconstruction of
this project, I am sure that Wiley Post Hangar Committee
will be glad to show you the way. If you want more
information, go to
www.fly-low.com and the Oklahoma link on our home page
or go to
http://www.taxi-strip.com/WileyPostHangar.html .
The
recently created Wiley Post Commission will present it
first award in January. This may be a newly created
award, but with the name it bears and the symbolism it
carries, it will soon be one of the most prestigious
awards presented in the aviation community.
Our story
about TAT has sparked much interest in the efforts of
Charles Lindbergh and Amelia Earhart. The museum that
contains the artifacts of the event in Waynoka, Oklahoma
and the building (Now located in Little Rock, Arkansas)
are historic reminders of the accomplishments of those who
flew before us. Preserving that aviation history has
fallen in the hands of many special aviators who live in
Oklahoma and other states. Our support, financial and
spiritual, is certainly needed.
HAPPY NEW YEAR
Here we go
alive into 2005. From our staff, we hope and pray this
year is one of your best, get high and enjoy.
