"Throttle Forward"
By Ralph McCormick, Publisher

9.11.01

I wasn’t alive when Pearl Harbor was bombed.  I know now how my parents must have felt on December 7, 1941.  As I sit in front of the television this September 11, 2001, I find there are no words for what the television is splashing into my living room.  I can only compare what I see today to what I saw during the Vietnam War.  Somehow this seems more serious since it is on our soil.  The buildings had a capacity of 10,000 plus people per building for that time of the morning.   That figure doesn’t include the 10,000 visitors that could have been there. The final death toll will be amazingly large.

Death in any form is hard to stomach.  Watching the commercial jet plow into the second World Trade Center Building was terrible.  The number of dead in New York is twice the number who lived in the town which I grew up.  That is bad.  This will change the U.S. in many ways.  The price we pay for having a free society has made hijacking much easier and more likely to happen.

War has started.  We just don’t know the face of the enemy.

Never has there been such a senseless killing field on this soil since the Civil War.  Never should there be again.  The facts seem clear..  Bin Laden has been pursued by our government for many years…  the World Trade Center was attacked in 1993..  the security at commercial airports has been poor for years.  Certain agencies, however, should have had some fore sight.  There will be lots of “We should have done more.”  Now is the time to “do more”.  Make these changes on security for commercial flights.  Think ahead of the terrorist.  React before the terrorist act.  This country has much to learn from the event 9.11.01.  Let us learn well and prevent this useless and senseless killing from happening again.

The thousands of lives lost in NYC will live with us for the rest of our lives.  The people who committed this act will certainly reap their rewards.  Their time shall come and it will not be nice, whether on earth or elsewhere.

My prayers are with the children, spouses, and families, of those brave people, who died in the destruction of the World Trade Center Towers.  As we shed tears for those who were lost… as we shed tears for those who have lost..  as we shed tears for America – Let us always keep our head high..  We are AMERICANS and FREEDOM SHALL ALWAYS RING.

Let us not be fast to forget the price of freedom.  Let us not be fast to forget 09.11.01.  Let us not FORGET!
